 Where it all began ...

I came to this work the way most profound things arrive, unplanned!

In 1989, I was 18 years old and studying at Chelsea Collegeof Art, preparing for a career in design. But life had other plans. One day, it handed me not just a sketchpad, but a positive pregnancy test.

I didn’t leave art college with a degree, at a time with no provision for continuing as a young mother, I left before graduating for something far more fulfilling and life-changing: the beginning of my journey into motherhood and the inspiration for the work that would come to shape the rest of my life

My own journey through motherhood  from my first baby in 1989 to my fifth in 2013, alongside supporting expectant parents and young families, showed me something , I haven't been able to look away from since . . .

. . . emotional support
is often missing when
women need it most. How a woman is made
t
o feel during pregnancy, birth and early motherhood is not separate from how her experience unfolds.

It shapes it.

Pooh, how do spell love?

"You don't spell love Piglet,

you feel it"

 It's the little things ...

After the birth of my first baby, my earliest professional years were shaped by hands-on, heart-led work as a Nanny, Maternity Nurse and NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor.

It was in those quiet, everyday moments, passing on birthing wisdom, helping settle newborns, supporting feeding, offering babywearing guidance, and holding space for first-time mothers and overwhelmed parents, that I began to deeply understand the power of being truly supported.

What felt heavy became lighter, what felt overwhelming became possible. What looked like small gestures often made the greatest difference.

The families I supported moved through this life-changing transition with more ease, and the care I shared continued toshape their journey long after our time together ended.

Years later, as a single mother of three, I spent ten years immersed in legal study, professional training and practice, building a career as a Legal Executive in the City of London, where I advocated for high-profile and high-net-worth clients in complex legal cases. That work strengthened my emotional resilience, sharpened my intuition, and developed a level of professionalism that still shapes how I support clients today. And even though I worked hard to get there, and genuinely loved parts of my legal career, I had worked hard for it, but  it never quite felt like the right fit.

The call that changed it all ...

I  left work immediately and met them at the hospital. I stayed supporting them through her labour, not as a professional, not as family, or as a close friend but as a calm, steady presence that somehow felt essential. Quietly holding space in the middle of the storm.

That moment revealed something to me. Supporting her in that hospital room didn’t feel like stepping into something new. It felt like coming home. She saw it before I did: this wasn’t something I had to become. It was something I already was.

It was another day working in the City when the call came mid-meeting, mid-case, mid-career. A mother from the school run was on her way to hospital, in premature labour at just 26 weeks. She wasn’t a close friend.

But in that moment, frightened, overwhelmed, and unsure, she chose to reach out to me. Her husband was with her, but equally scared. she was feeling at her most vulnerable. She didn’t need to explain. She just said, “Can you come?”as if she already knew I’d bring something no one else could.

Having two more babies in my forties gave me the opening I'd been waiting for to step away from law and return fully to the work I was meant to do. Committing more time to supporting new mothers with breastfeeding and babywearing. It was the clear connection between birth experiences and new mothers emotional wellbeing that led me to complete my doula training in 2017. After a year working as a doula in London, our family relocated to Cheshire, and The Birth Doula Cheshire was born.

There is consistently high demand for my services, something I never take for granted. Clients often tell me this reflects the genuine care, commitment and skilled support they receive throughout our time together. Many families return for subsequent births and remain in touch for years afterwards, reflecting the trust and connection at the heart of my work.

My work is experiential, ancestral, and deeply instinctive. Bearing witness to birth, feels sacred. Supporting another woman as they cross the threshold into motherhood, however that happens, goes beyond words, and is always an honour and a privilege.

The Path to a

Transformational Birth ...

Attending births week in, week out over the last decade has taught me something essential: supporting clients needs to go deeper than information and empathy

The birth preparation I was already offering, through breathwork, embodied tools, emotional support and birth coaching, was having a profound impact. Again and again, clients told me how this knowledge transformed their experience. I deepened my research, invested in further training, refined what worked and shaped it into would become my transformational birth

coaching approach

That’s the foundation of the work I now offer through doula support, one-to-one coaching, and group classes.

I’m genuinely grateful to every family who chooses to work with me. Their trust allows me to continue doing this meaningful, valuable work, and they inspire me every day to keep sharing what truly matters.

The moment a child is born,
the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed,
but the mother never.
A mother is something absolutely new

The Full Circle ...

And that baby boy I birthed whilst still a teenager, the one who led me, unknowingly at the time, onto this path? The baby that made

me a mother, remains, alongside his two brothers and two sisters, my greatest teachers and inspirations. He’s now a father himself, to my beautiful grandson, Reuben. Watching my eldest step into parenthood

with presence and care has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

A contemporary artist based back in Chelsea. The place where I first stepped into motherhood is now where he creates work that challenges, moves, and inspires. There’s something so powerful about that full circle.
