Where it all began ...
In 1989, I was 18 years old and studying at Chelsea College of Art—planning a career in design. But life had other plans. One day, it handed me not just a sketchpad, but a positive pregnancy test.
I didn’t leave Art College with a degree. I left before graduating for something far more fulfilling and life-changing: the beginning of my journey into motherhood—and into the work that would come to shape the rest of my life.

Becoming a mother felt more innate than anything I’d done up to that point. It grounded me. It clarified things I didn’t even know I needed clarity on. And it revealed a truth I hadn’t yet had words for and is still so prevlant now, more than ever. how little clear accurate information, emotional and practical support so many women receive during such a profound and vulnerable time.
And what became glaringly clear: that birth had shifted far from something once understood as deeply innate. The scientific blueprint all mammals are born with—to give birth to their young, bypassed, to something routinely medicalised—even when there was no clear need. A process to be managed, monitored and controlled. Women's trust in their body’s ability to give birth had been eroded, And the birthing wisdom that once flowed from generation to generation? Silenced or forgotten.

That theme—the absence of loving, non-judgmental support, and the deep human need to be seen, heard, guided and held through life’s biggest transitions—became a thread that’s run through everything I’ve done since.
It’s why I do this work.
Because I believe you deserve an experience where you feel truly supported, guided, valued, and respected. So you can trust yourself, know your inner strength, feel strong, competent and capable as a mother
Its the little things ...

Training and working as a Nanny, Maternity nurse, and NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor after the birth of my baby, My earliest professional years were shaped by hands-on, heart-led work with new families.

It was in those quiet, everyday moments—passing on birthing wisdom, helping settle newborns, supporting feeding struggles, helping with babywearing and holding space for first time mothers and overwhelmed parents—that I began to deeply understand the power of being truly supported and how it changes everything—what once felt heavy became lighter, what felt overwhelming become possible. The families I supported moved through this life-changing transition with more ease—and the care I shared continued to shape their journey long after our time together ended.
What seemed like little things—simple moments of care—turned out to be what mattered most. The quiet gestures of support that came so intuitively to me made the biggest impact.
The call that changed it all ...

Years later, as a single mother of three, I retrained as a legal executive and spent over a decade working as a lawyer in the City of London.advocating for high-profile and high net worth clients in complex legal cases.—I grew my emotional resilience, sharpened my intuition, and developed a professionalism that still shapes how I support clients today. And even though I’d worked hard to get where I was—and genuinely loved my legal career—it never quite felt like the right fit.

It was another day working in the City when the call came—mid-meeting, mid-case, mid-career. A mother from the school run was on her way to hospital, in premature labour at just 26 weeks. She wasn’t a close friend.

But in that moment—frightened, overwhelmed, and unsure—she chose to reach out to me. Her husband was with her, but equally scared. she was feeling at her most vulnerable, she felt I was the one who could help. She didn’t need to explain. She just said, “Can you come?”—as if she already knew I’d bring something no one else could.

I left work immediately and met them at the hospital. I stayed supporting them through her labour—not as a professional, not as family, or as a close friend but as a calm, steady presence that somehow felt essential. Quietly holding space in the middle of the storm.

That moment revealed something to me
Supporting her in that hospital room didn’t feel like stepping into something new. It felt like coming home. She saw it before I did: this wasn’t something I had to become. It was something I already was.
City Lawyer to Birth Doula ...
Having two more children in my forties reignited my interest in supporting new mothers with breastfeeding and babywearing.

It was the clear connection between birth experiences and new mothers emotional wellbeing that led me to complete my Doula Training in 2017. After a year working as a Doula in London, our family relocated to Cheshire, and The Birth Doula Cheshire was born.

The consistently high demand for my services reflects my deep commitment to truly understanding and honouring each client’s unique needs. My approach is always client-centred, professional, intuitive, and compassionate.

Since 2017, I’ve built and sustained a heart-led and highly regarded practice. Many families return for support with subsequent births, and I remain in contact with past clients long after our time together—a testament to the trust and connection we build.

Built Through Experience, Refined Through Trust ...
.png)
Working closely with so many families showed me something essential: birth support must go deeper than information and empathy.

It’s about reframing the beliefs we hold about birth and connecting to what’s already inbuilt—your nervous system, breath, mind–body connection, and labour hormones. It’s about learning to trust yourself, leaning into what’s innate, and being guided by intuitive movement and emotional instinct.

At the heart of it is having the right support: your chosen birth environment—whether home or hospital—serves as a sacred space that must be protected, respected, and aligned with your physiology, even during necessary and welcomed clinical intervention. The people you invite into that space become anchors: so that in your most vulnerable moments, you feel safe, held, listened to, and deeply cared for.
You also need to understand how the maternity system truly works and how to navigate it in real time, helping you to recognise whether an intervention is genuinely necessary, clinically indicated and appropriate to improve outcomes for you and your baby or simply routine policy that may not serve you and could even be detrimental.

Beyond Birth Preparation:
The Path to a Transformational Birth ...
.png)
My experience of supporting at births week in, week out, showed me how vital the right kind of birth preparation is and how powerful it is when clients feel fully immersed and invested in the process. Because in labour, your only focus should be this: to breathe through each and every contraction, one at a time. That kind of presence only comes when you’ve prepared emotionally, mentally, practically, and physically—so everything else is already taken care of. You’re not just stacking the odds in your favour—you’re free to soften, trust, and fully embrace the journey.
The in-depth birth preparation I was already offering—through breathwork, embodied tools, and emotional coaching—was having a profound impact. Again and again, clients told me how this knowledge and support transformed their experience. So I leaned into it. I deepened my research, invested in further training, and began shaping what would become my transformational birth coaching approach.
That’s the foundation of the work I now offer.
Through doula support, one-to-one coaching, and group classes, I’ve been able to reach even more expectant parents with the knowledge, tools, and real-world insight they need to create the birth they hope for—and a gentler, more confident transition into parenthood.
I’m genuinely grateful to every family who chooses to work with me. Their trust allows me to continue doing this meaningful, valuable work—and they inspire me every day to keep sharing what truly matters.

The Full Circle
_edited_edited_edited.png)
And that baby boy I birthed whilst still a teenager—the one who led me, unknowingly at the time, onto this path? I raised him, and his two siblings, on my own. Later, I was fortunate to go on to have two more babies. My first baby, now grown, remains, alongside his four brothers and sisters, one of my greatest teachers and inspirations.
The baby that made me a mother. He’s now a father himself—to my beautiful grandson, Reuben. Watching him step into parenthood with presence and care has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

And guess what—he never had any interest in art growing up. But in 2019, on a whim, he picked up a paintbrush, thinking he’d “have a go.” Now, he’s grown into a brilliant contemporary artist—based back in Chelsea, where it all began for both of us. There’s something so powerful about that full circle. The place where I first stepped into motherhood is now where he creates work that challenges, moves, and inspires.
